  • The Pope Is Fluent In Four Languages, But English Is Not One Of Them. He is fluent in his native Spanish, Italian, German, and Latin, the official language of the Vatican.
  • As a Football Fan,  Pope Francis supports San Lorenzo – an Argentinian football club based in his home town Buenos Aires.
  • He Is The First Pope From The Developing World, the first pope from the Americas, and the first non-European pope since Syrian Gregory III in 741. He is also the first Jesuit pope.
  • Before joining the clergy, he earned a master’s degree in chemistry from the University of Buenos Aires.
  • In September 2009, he initiated a solidarity campaign in celebration of Argentina’s Independence Day bicentenary which aimed to establish 200 charitable center.
  • Pontiff Francis Has Never Been To The United States as he has made a point of prioritizing the margins of society over developed countries in the Western world.
  • He Has Only One Lung. This is due to a respiratory illness that he suffered as a young man. It was removed in 1969.
  • Pope Francis was born Jorge Mario Bergoglio on December 17, 1936 as one of seven children. His parents were Italian immigrants with his father as a railway worker and his mother a housewife.
  • In 2005, he reportedly got the second-most votes on each of the ballots of the 2005 papal conclave as Cardinal Bergoglio which eventually elected Pope Benedict XVI.
  • The Pope does not wear Prada Shoes like his predecessor Benedict XVI and his chartered papal flight is nicknamed “Shepherd One”.
