Alabama Pastor Harry Reeder Dies in a Car Crash at 75!

The Briarwood Presbyterian Church senior pastor passed away Thursday morning after his car crashed with a dump truck. He reportedly was making his way home from speaking at a legislative prayer service in Montgomery prior to the crash.

Reeder’s demise was announced on the church’s Facebook page by Briarwood Pastor Bruce Stallings. He wrote

“It is with a deeply heavy heart that I communicate to you that our Lord has called Pastor Reeder home through a car accident.”

“Please pray for Cindy, Jennifer, Ike, Abby, and their entire family as well as our staff and church family as we all grieve this tremendous loss together.”

“But we do not grieve without hope because we know our pastor is with His Savior and has been received by grace. “Well done My good and faithful servant.””

Church leaders however have shared condolences following Reeder’s demise. Albert Mohler, president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, tweeted

“So sorry to hear of the death of my friend Harry Reeder, pastor of Briarwood PCA in Birmingham. Harry was a stalwart for the faith and a genuinely gracious man. I pray for his wife & family and for the church he so dearly loved and led.”

Zachary Groff, pastor at Antioch Presbyterian Church in South Carolina also shared his condolences.

“I am deeply grieved at our loss here in the church on earth. I wept as I wrote an email to my session, and I have a deep ache in my chest as I write this small remembrance. Please pray for the Reeder and Briarwood families,” he wrote.

Rev. Harry Reeder has been the lead pastor of Briarwood Church since 1999. He is survived by his wife, Cindy, three children, and nine grandchildren.
