Ministry

Dr. Alex Himaya is the founder and lead Pastor of The Church at BattleCreek, located in Tulsa.

About 100 of the church’s remaining members in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, a suburb of Tulsa, urged Dr. Alex Himaya to accept a post as Senior Pastor and assist in reviving the congregation in 2002.

The Gracemont church had seen a significant drop in membership as a result of a number of things. The remaining congregation members were then in charge of a sizable meeting place (originally constructed as an outlet mall but bought by Gracemont during a period of development in the 1980s) as well as a sizable mortgage.

With the understanding that the church would essentially dissolve and rebuild as a new congregation with a new name, new ministry initiatives, and a heavy focus on evangelism, Dr. Himaya agreed to accept the job.

During a first meeting, Dr. Himaya gave the church its direction by saying: “Another church is not necessary in Tulsa. Tulsa needs a secure setting where the unreligious can learn the transforming message that Jesus Christ died for their sins and cares for them.” The congregation soon became officially known as “The Church at BattleCreek.” As one of the fastest-growing churches in the nation, the rapidly expanding Church nevertheless has its main campus in Broken Arrow.
