Bishop T.D Jakes: The Battle For Souls

Bishop T.D Jakes: The Battle For Souls: This is another wonderful sermon from the Bishop of the house, T.D Jakes which he titled “The Battle For Souls”. A subtitle for the message is “The Imposter Syndrome‘.  The text for this particular message is from the boo of Genesis 32:2-32.  The text is the story of how Jacob fought an angel and wouldn’t let him leave till he blessed him.

In this message, the Bishop teaches that if there is one thing we need to stop doing, it is trying to run away from our purpose and hiding in the world. We cannot continue struggling and fighting ourselves from becoming who or what God wants us to become. This is an effect of what he called the Imposter Syndrome

“You don’t have to fight yourself anymore. You’ve been in this world too long as an “imposter,” and it’s time to take off the mask. When you hide behind the world and reduce God’s influence, you devalue your soul’s importance. It’s time for God’s calling to come to the forefront. Stop fighting your purpose and start clinging tight. If you hold on, God will bless you. ”

Further, the Bishop made it clear that that the first step to tackling the imposter syndrome is to first of all identify what it is. It is a tendency and not a type of person. It is not permanent or fatal, it is a tendency to have the feeling of not being authentic. Also, It is a tendency to show up as you are expected and go back exhausted.

The imposter syndrome will only drain you and take a toll on your mental health. This makes us dumb down our creativity just to fit in. No matter how high you go, you will never feel authentic.
