Biography

CeCe Winans is the stage name of Priscilla Marie Winans Love, an American gospel singer. She first gained fame as a member of the singing duo BeBe & CeCe Winans before launching a successful solo career.

Winans was born in Detroit, Michigan, to Delores and David Winans. One of ten kids, she is. Her parents only listened to gospel music because they were members of the Church of God in Christ. At the age of 8, she performed her first solo.

Winans first went to Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1981 to perform on Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker’s popular Christian television program, The PTL Club. CeCe and her older brother BeBe were once members of the bigger Winans family singing group, but after receiving excellent reviews for their rendition of the song “Up Where We Belong” performed as a duet with the lyrics altered for Christian listeners, they broke off to form a pair while attending PTL. Lord Lift Us Up, CeCe and Bebe’s debut album, was released in 1984 on PTL Records. They eventually released nine Gold and Platinum records under the BeBe & CeCe Winans moniker, enjoying crossover success. In 1984, Winans left PTL soon before getting hitched. In 1985, her brother left.

She was godmother to late Bobbi Kristina Brown and the dearest friend of late Whitney Houston. Winans performed “Don’t Cry for Me” and “Jesus Loves Me” at Houston’s funeral on February 18, 2012, at New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey.

Winans is married to Alvin Love II. The Couple got married on June 3rd 1984.  She has two children, a son and a daughter, and the family now resides in Brentwood, Tennessee, a suburb of Nashville.

Career

With the 1995 release of Alone in His Presence, Winans launched her solo career. She received two Dove Awards, including Female Vocalist of the Year, a Grammy Award, and it sold more than a million copies. The Gold-certified Everlasting Love, Winans’ second album, came out in 1998 and included her highest-charting solo singles, “Well Alright” and “Slippin.” R&B singer Lauryn Hill wrote and produced the album’s song “On That Day.” Winans released His Gift, a holiday CD, later that year.

Winans launched PureSprings Gospel, her own record label, in 1999. Alabaster Box, her debut album for the company, was released in 1999. Fred Hammond, a musician and gospel vocalist, contributed to some of the disc’s production. Take 6 made a special appearance. Live at the Lambs Theater in New York is the name of a concert VHS that Winans released in 2000. She sang songs from her earlier albums during the show. CeCe Winans, her subsequent album, was released in 2001. GRITS made a cameo appearance on the tune “Anybody Wanna Pray”. Say A Prayer, the second single, broke into the CCM market.

After a two-year hiatus from album releases, Winans made a comeback in 2003 with Throne Room. Exclusive interviews with the artist, behind-the-scenes material from the CD’s production, tour footage, and the music video for “More Than What I Wanted” (which was taken from the 2001 release) were all included on the bonus CD that was included with the first 1,000 copies.

2005 saw the release of Purified, her seventh album. Her nephew Mario Winans was one of the four producers. Numerous songs on the CD were co-written by her son Alvin III and her younger sisters Angie and Debbie.

The duet “Count On Me” by Winans and Whitney Houston from the Waiting to Exhale soundtrack is among her Top Ten R&B radio singles. It debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100, No. 4 on the Adult Contemporary chart, and No. 8 on the Billboard R&B Singles chart after receiving a Gold certification in the US.

On April 1, 2008, she released Thy Kingdom Come, the eighth album from which the single “Waging War” was taken. Malaco Records published the BeBe & CeCe reunion album Still on October 6, 2009. It features collaborations with Marvin Winans and the modern gospel sister group Mary Mary.

On The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on December 23, 2010, Winans performed with Bebe and Mary Mary and the West Angeles Choir.

She debut her latest songs on Sept 14, 2022 known “Goodness of God.

Winans and her brother Bebe served as judges for Sunday Best, a gospel singing competition on BET, from 2012 to 2014.

Let Them Fall in Love, Winans’ tenth album, was released in 2017, and it earned her two Grammy Awards for Best Gospel Performance/Song and Best Gospel Album. Believe for It, the debut live worship album by Winans that was released in 2021, was nominated for three further Grammy Awards (including Best Gospel Album) in April 2022.

Winans has authored three books:
