Pastor Dollar teaches us in this message about being approachable. It is important for us to learn to be mature emotionally. We have spent a lot of time seeking spiritual maturity. We have to know that we have to be mature, both spiritually and emotionally. We can’t ignore our emotions because we were created to have feelings. We can’t ignore when we are hurt. God gave us emotions to be a blessing to us, and sometimes as Christians, we want to act like we don’t have emotions. The problem is that we allow our emotions to control us; we are not meant to be governed by our emotions. We need to learn how to mature emotionally because a lot of things we do to demonstrate the character that we have come from immature emotions. We may know the Bible, pray for hours, and even speak in tongues; they are all great, but we have to have good character, which comes from emotional maturity. For us to have good character and personality, it all comes from emotional maturity. Emotional immaturity causes you not to carry yourself in a way that will make other people want to be like you.
We have to know that, as Christians, people are watching us. They’re seeing how we carry ourselves and how we respond to certain things. The way you develop your emotions will really speak louder than anything else when they see your response. As Christians, we have to know if we are approachable. Emotionally mature people are able to, and they prefer to talk with people and not at them. Emotionally mature people have genuine empathy for others. They’re not too quick to judge somebody without first asking themselves what it was like to be in their shoes.
