Creflo Dollar: The Purpose of Suffering – Episode 2

We bring you today’s message from Pastor Creflo Dollar, which is titled “The Purpose of Suffering – Episode 2”. The text for this message is from the book of Luke 22:31-33. The text talks about the dialogue between Peter and Jesus.

In this message, Pastor Dollar tries to analyse the discussion that Jesus had with peter. Jesus had told Peter that he would betray him before the cock crows thrice, an assertion that Peter immediately countered. The issue then became, since peter eventually betrayed Jesus, can it be said that Peter’s faith failed him?\

Taking us to the book of Mark 14, Pastor Dollar points out that Peter’s faith did not fail because his profession was not even made in faith to begin with. Apostle Peter had vowed that he would rather die with Christ than betray him, a statement made out of self-confidence and not in faith. Peter’s failure then was of self and not of his faith in God. In fact, his faith in God is what got him to change his mind to repent.

Speaking more on the topic, Pastor Dollar said that the very first essential to dependence on God is to learn of our own weakness. For Peter, the experience was disgraceful but he emerged with a deeper sense of how much he needed God. Peter had faith in God but his faith was mixed with confidence in self. The trial of his faith burned out his confidence in self and taught him to depend on God daily.

Pastor Dollar pointed out that there is a possibility that we can see our lives in pieces of what Peter went through. So with all believers, the failure of the flesh may be God’s way or God’s means to bring about a greater dependence upon him. The dependence that grows into an enriched spiritual life especially when you have confidence in self
