Biography

Daniel Musselman, grew up in a musical family, with both parents as fantastic singers and instrumentalists. Dan and his  brother and spent many years as music educators.

Born May 27th, 1986, Dan started playing piano at the age of 5. He has studied with jazz legends Craig Taborn (pianist for Chris Potter) and Kenny Werner (author of Effortless Mastery) and has been a featured artist in Jazziz Magazine.

He went to McNally Smith College of Music for piano performance in St. Paul, MN.where he eventually became an instructor until the school closed down in 2017.

Dan graduated from McNally Smith College of Music with his bachelor’s degree in piano performance in April 2008. He was the Diana Ross Full-Ride Scholarship recipient, graduated summa cum laude, was salutatorian, and was the sole recipient of the “Outstanding Student Award.”

 He went on to acquire his Master’s in Music Composition at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN in 2012. Also in 2015, he got his Doctorate in Music Composition at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN.

Career

Dan Musselman is currently a  professor at the College of Fine Arts at North Central University. He had first started off as an instructor at the McNally Smith College of Music until it closed down in 2017. Dan is an excellent performer who has performed at many venues in the Twin Cities, such as the Artists’ Quarter, the Dakota Bar and Café, the Times Bar and Cafe, and the Saint Paul Hotel.

In the Twin Cities, Dan has performed with: Rachel Holder, Judi Donaghy, Debbie Duncan, Patty Peterson, Jay Epstein, Erin Schwab, Zack Lozier, Steve Pikal, Cory Wong, Zach Schmidt, Patricio Toledo-Creus, Zeb Cruikshank, and many more. He also is working in a promotional group, The Power of Music, where he works with Grammy Award-winning Andre Fischer and Craig Rice, the former manager of Prince, Bobby Brown, and Whitney Houston.

In April 2008, Dan released his first solo album, entitled Ruminations. It was recorded at Monkey House Studios in Hudson, WI, by Scott Jarrett. Entirely comprised of improvised compositions, it has received many accolades and much attention.

He is currently the music director at the River Valley Church, a position he has held since 2014. Dan worked as a keyboardist and music director for the Crosstown (one of the 50 largest and fastest-growing churches in the country).

Dan is the creator of Corridor, an interactive, game-based music theory, ear training, and keyboard program that reaches 1500 users, is a MN Cup semi-finalist, and forms the Zivix partnership (creators of Jamstik). He has also composed, recorded, and audio-engineered scoring projects for the University of Maryland. He currently has a YouTube channel with 2.7 million views and 12,000 subscribers.
