Darlene Joyce Zschech, born Darlene Joyce Steinhardt, is an Australian Pentecostal Christian worship leader and singer. On September 8, 1965, she was bborn. arlene is a songwriter who primarily writes praise and worship songs, as well as the pioneer of the modern worship movement.
Zschech started her musical career as a child. At the young age of ten (10), she starred on television as part of an Australian children’s show, Happy Go Round. When she was 13, her parents divorced, and the emotional stress of being on television and her parents’ divorce resulted in her having bulimia for about four years.
In 1980, when Zschech was 15, her father rededicated his life to Christ and began taking her to church, where she also became a committed Christian and met her future husband, Mark Zschech. When they married, her husband suggested that they move from Brisbane to Sydney. They began attending Hills Christian Life Centre, which would become Hillsong Church.
On December 11, 2013, Zschech announced that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. In a blog post dated November 30, 2014, she wrote that she had been healed of cancer, which her doctor called miraculous.

Darlene is married to Mark Zscech. The duo met while Mark was auditioning to be her drummer. The couple got married on September 14, 1984. They are blessed with three (3) children.

Career
Zschech performed jingles for a number of multinational corporations, including McDonald’s, KFC, and Coca-Cola. Make the Choice was released in 1987, while Pearls & Gold was released in 1993. After writing “Shout to the Lord” in 1993, she finally joined the Hillsong Church team. “Shout to the Lord” first debuted on People Just Like Us and has since appeared on over 200 albums by various performers in varied languages.
The album Shout to the Lord was nominated for Album of the Year at the 1997 Dove Awards and Song of the Year at the 1998 Dove Awards. Zschech was nominated for a Dove Award for songwriter of the year in 2000, and he also got the International Award for influence in praise and worship.
Zschech worked as Hillsong Church’s worship pastor from 1996 to 2007, during which time she produced, vocal produced, or executive produced more than 20 albums on the Hillsong Music label and penned more than 80 published worship songs.
People Just Like Us (1994) was the first Christian album in Australia to be certified gold and platinum, and For Everything You’ve Done (2004) debuted at No. 1 on the Australian Record Industry Association album charts under Zschech’s direction.
Kiss of Heaven, Zschech’s first official solo album, was released in 2003. Transform Your World came out in 2005. She has now released two albums, Just Darlene and You Are Love, in 2011. In addition to writing songs, she has written five books. The books include;
