Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?

Anthony Bourdain, the globe-trotting chef who recently took his own life, wrote in a memoir: “Your body is not a temple. It’s an amusement park. Enjoy the ride.” That’s how Bourdain lived. He enjoyed, experienced, indulged, abused, ate, drank, and wandered around until his ride came to a tragic stop.
But our lives are not amusement rides; they are designed as temples for the Holy Spirit, who lives within us when Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior. We are here on assignment, and Christ lives through us as we labor for His glory.
Because of the resurrection of Christ, our time on earth is not futile. Our days are filled with hope and optimism because the One living within us overcame sin, death, the devil, and hell. We may never travel to the ends of the earth for television, but we represent a Savior who is reaching the ends of the earth with the Good News—and we are part of His program!
Activity in God’s service is the best cure for many of the ills of life…. Our labor is not in vain when it is performed for God.
