Donna Crouch Sermons Dealing with Discouragement

The scriptures above talk about a time in the psalmist life, about personal pain and the opportunity to lean into the promises of God.
Every time we turn on the television there is a discouragement on the media. A lot of people are dealing with anxiety. we are dealing with a time that we have never been in before. People are dealing with the situations in their own way.
Discouragements are a part of life but there is nothing that we go through that the bible does not attend to. The scriptures above although filled with lamentation but is also filled with hope. The verses teach us how to correct the discouragement in our heart. How to put our trust back in God and he will correct things and turn things around.
Here are simple steps on dealing with discouragement:
1. Feel all the feels. This is fantastic especially when the feeling is happiness but it is not always so. Let us bear in mind that we are created in God’s image therefore God has emotions. There has been a time that he expressed disappointment in creating us. Jesus also showed emotions in John 11;35.
2. There is a gift in the pain. The pain is not the gift but when we get to understand that pain has a way of getting our attention that there is something wrong.
3. Become the prosecutor, identify the accuser. Instead of getting stuck in the swamp of feeling, start asking questions of God and applying the truth of God to them.
Keep going and do not stop. Let us apply the truth of God to the situations and keep reminding ourselves of wah God has done for us.
