Pastor Dharius teaches us in this message about mastering saying goodbye to certain things in our lives so that we can be better people. Sometimes we have to let go of things in order to become a better version of ourselves. For some relationships and passions, we have to say goodbye. We’ve got to walk through some seasons of life realizing that some friendships might not live, some ambitions might not live, some desires might not live, some expectations might not live, and some preferences might not live, but our challenge in these seasons is trusting that what you gain in the resurrection is far greater than what you lose in crucifixion. We have to stop trying to perform CPR on something that God wants to stay buried.
Purpose will require you and I to adopt and accept the principle that Dr. Henry Cloud calls necessary endings. He says entrances into new seasons must be preceded by exits out of old ones. He says if you are unwilling to say hello, you will be unable to say hello to something new. A life skill that everybody needs to develop is the skill of saying goodbye to something in their lives. Spring can’t begin unless winter ends; summer can’t begin unless spring ends; fall can’t begin unless summer ends; and winter can’t begin unless fall ends. We have to learn to end certain things in our lives so that something new can start to happen. We have to understand that we can’t hold onto something old while accepting something new in our lives. It can be old relationships, passions, and material things that are not useful to us. The old season in our lives has to come to an end so that we can enter the new season and become a better version of ourselves.
