Franklin Graham, son of the late influential evangelical preacher Billy Graham returned to Seoul, South Korea to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his father’s historic crusade in Seoul, where he preached to 1.1 million people during his 5-day tour.
In a Saturday Tweet, Graham announced that Dr. Billy Kim, his father’s translator during his June 3, 1973 crusade invited him to preach in commemoration of the historic event.
“50 years ago today my father @BillyGraham preached to a massive crowd of 1.1 million people in Seoul, South Korea, and his translator was a young man named Dr. Billy Kim. Today Dr. Kim is one of the evangelical church leaders in the country—as well as a dear friend—and he invite me back to preach on this historic anniversary,” he wrote.
About 70,000 people gathered at Seoul World Cup Stadium to hear Graham preach. Graham preached to the people “a simple message of God’s love for the Korean people and how they can have a personal relationship with God.
“Speaking to the crowd he said “God made you, He created you, and He loves you. He sent His Son Jesus Christ to save you from your sins. If you’re willing to accept that by faith, believe in His name, and turn from your sins, your soul will be safe and secure in His hands for eternity.”
Graham who Arrived in Seoul on Thursday noted that “Korea has changed a lot in the last five decades, the world has changed, but the Gospel has not changed and the needs of the human heart haven’t changed. Jesus Christ is still the only answer.”
Exactly 50 years ago on June 3, 1973, Billy Graham held the finale of his historic crusade that drew 1.1 million people to Yoido Plaza. It however was Billy Graham’s largest in-person outreach of his ministry. He preached during the 5-day tour to a total of 3.2 million people and converted 72,000 to Christ.
