Hillsong Founder Brian Houston confesses to drink-driving charges

Hillsong founder Brian Houston admits driving under the influence of alcohol in the USA  prior to his resignation from church.

Following a statement posted on Instagram on Wednesday, the former senior pastor of Hillsong Church claimed that he was charged with drink-driving in the United States, in February last year. “In  February 2022, and in the lead up to my departure from the role of Senior Pastor of Hillsong Church, I was unfortunately charged with driving under the influence of alcohol in the USA.” he wrote.

Houston went on to disclose that he had wanted to drive his car a few meters to park it before he was caught. “I made the foolish decision to drive just 2 or 3 hundred meters ( yard) to park the car.” He said.

A month after the incident, Brian Houston resigned from the church, following claims of him mistreating two women. A former Hillsong staff who he allegedly sent “inappropriate” text messages. Also entering into a woman’s hotel room after a conference meeting. Following the claims and further investigations, it was concluded: “that Brian had breached the Hillsong Pastor’s Code of Conduct.” Said the church’s board.

In the Wednesday’s statement, pastor Brian disclosed that he was emotionally strained then. But nevertheless, not having it as an excuse for his action. “At the time it seemed like all hell had broken loose within Hillsong Church and I was under immense pressure and emotional strain. Clearly, that is not an excuse, and I take full responsibility for my actions.” He said.

Furthermore, Brian noted that he is better since the incident. “Thirteen months have passed since that incident occurred and I am now in a much stronger place with my spirit and soul. Brian noted. He also appreciated God, friends, and family who had supported him then.
