Teaching on Gentleness, the Church took to Instagram to write: “GENTLENESS

If your family, friends, and coworkers could describe you in three words, what would they be? What would you want them to be? Ephesians 5:1 says, “Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children.” While we should not live for people’s approval or be enslaved by their opinions, it’s important to live a life that reflects Christ to others. As we exemplify Christ in our lives, it gives others a taste of how good He is and can bring them one step closer to knowing Him in a deeper way.
Philippians 4:4-5 gives a clear direction for one attribute we can strive to reflect in any situation: “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.” Verse 4 repeats the command “rejoice” a second time because it’s so important. It’s not only a godly habit, but it’s crucial for gentleness. But what does rejoicing have to do with gentleness? When things are going downhill, it’s easy to be stressed and lash out on others. We become the opposite of gentle: mean, aggressive, overbearing. The act of rejoicing in times of stress helps us to focus on God’s goodness and softens our heart and attitude.
So how can we rejoice in the Lord in any situation? There are two promises that help us stay joyful and thankful to the Lord, no matter the situation.
God has a good plan and timing for our lives. Proverbs 16:9 says that “A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.” We may have plans for our lives, but God sees the bigger picture, and things will happen in His timing.
Because we will always belong to God, we are secure. Jesus said in John 13:3, “Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God.” We can be confident in who we are, whose we are, and where we are going. If we remember this promise in tough times, our worries would seem so much smaller.”
