How to Navigate Forgiveness

Sarah Jakes Roberts shares this message alongside Layla Ellaisy titled “How to Navigate Forgiveness” and you really need to find out what they have to say about how it connects with our relationship with God and practical ways they’ve chosen to offer forgiveness.

She said she thinks forgiveness has less to do about letting someone off of the hook and more to do with saying ‘I no longer want to feel responsible for protecting myself from this happening again’. This is because unforgiveness feels warm and that it feels like you will never let this happen to you again. The pain is so close to the chest that you will know for sure that this person won’t come back into your life and to forgive someone makes us feel like we are going to be living vulnerably.

You are going to forgive not because the person deserves it, not because it didn’t hurt … you are going to forgive because you trust God can take this pain, these wounds, these shattered pieces from what didn’t go right in some kind of way and still turn it into good. Forgiveness has nothing to do with the other person and has everything to do in Sarah’s opinion with trusting God with what’s left.
