Lauren Daigle is an award-winning American contemporary gospel artist and songwriter. She auditioned for American Idol in 2010 and 2012.
Biography
Lauren Ashley Daigle was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana on September 9, 1991, and grew up in Lafayette, Louisiana. In her background, she was influenced by zydeco, blues, and Cajun music. Her mother referred to her home as “the music box” since she was constantly singing.
At first, Daigle did not take music seriously until she contracted CMV (Cytomegalovirus) at the age of 15. During the next two years, she was unable to attend school due to this illness. Daigle attended voice lessons at the time, which gave her a creative outlet. She planned to enter the medical industry and undertake mission work while in high school. Also, she attended a charter school and finished a year and a half of class work in six months, allowing her to graduate early. She took a year off from school to serve on a mission.

Career
Daigle began singing in her choir and then led the choir at LSU. She auditioned for American Idol in 2010 and 2012 after her family encouraged her to participate in the singing competition. In 2010, she was removed just before the final 24 hopefuls and did not make it to Hollywood in 2011. She made it to the Hollywood round in 2012 but was eliminated in the first round in Las Vegas.
Lauren made her debut on the CD Hear by North Point InsideOut, where she recorded “Close” and “You Alone” live at North Point Community Church in Alpharetta, Georgia. She later recorded “It is Well” for North Point Music’s album North Point Beginnings in 2015.
Later, she was invited to sing background vocals on an EP for a local band named “The Assemblie” (Darkness Falling and Heartbeat), and the EP momentarily became the best-selling album on the iTunes Store in the United States. Centricity Music invited her to a workshop following the publication of the EP. When the main event vocalist at the workshop became ill, she was invited to fill in. As a result, she sang on Jason Gray’s track “Nothing is Wasted.” In 2013, Centricity Music signed her to the label.
Daigle’s first single, “Light of the World,” was released in 2013 as part of the Centricity compilation Christmas: Joy To The World. The single, which served as Daigle’s solo debut in the Christian music field, attracted an early popularity and a lot of attention for Daigle. She was requested to join Aaron Shust and Mikeschair on the Dawn Rises Fall Tour that year. In September 2014, Daigle released the EP How Can It Be?
How Can It Be, Daigle’s debut full-length album, was released on April 14, 2015, and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Christian Albums Chart. The album also charted in the top 20 for all genres on the Billboard Top Albums Chart (No. 16)
Look Up Child, Daigle’s third studio album, was released in September 2018. With 115,000 album-equivalent units sold in the first week, it went on to debut at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 list, becoming the highest-charting Christian album by a woman in more than 20 years, and No. 1 on the Top Christian Albums chart. The album’s lead single, “You Say,” peaked at No. 29 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and broke the record for the most weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Christian Songs chart for any solo artist, with 129 weeks. Daigle received two Grammy Awards for the album and single.

In addition to two Grammy Awards, Daigle has won seven GMA Dove Awards, five Billboard Music Awards, two American Music Awards, and has had four No. 1 singles on both the Billboard Christian Airplay and Hot Christian Songs chart.
