Message: Joel Osteen – “Power To Remain Calm”

Theme For Message by Joel Osteen Today 6 March 2020 – “Power To Remain Calm”

I was sitting in a restaurant when two men approached the front door. It was very windy outside, and the man in front let the door slam in the other man’s face. When that man entered and saw me, he smiled, came over to my table, and said, “Joel, if you hadn’t been in my head, I would have confronted that guy and let him have it.” He told me that he’d been hot-tempered for his whole life. But he’d been listening to our program, and just as he was about to lose his cool, he heard my voice saying, “Stay calm, and let God fight your battles.” He paused for a moment and decided to let it go and keep his joy.

You may have grown up with people who get upset easily and live offended. Why don’t you try a different approach? When you let people upset you, you’re giving away your power. You’re letting them control you. If they push your buttons, you get upset. Turn those buttons off. Life is so much more freeing when you’re not controlled by other people.

Don’t get on board with your feelings. The psalmist says, “That You may give him power to keep himself calm in the days of adversity” (Psalm 94:13). It doesn’t say God will keep other people’s offenses or rudeness from us, but it says that God has given us the power to remain calm. Quit telling yourself, “I can’t help but get upset.” You have the power to remain calm. You don’t have to be offended by what they say—that’s a learned behavior. Have strength to not react, but it’s not under control. You have to relearn how you respond.

Message By Joel Osteen Today Says “Every Day Is A Gift”

Every day is a gift. The Scripture says, “What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes” (James 4:14). We’re not going to be here forever. If you found out you only had a day to live, you wouldn’t even pay attention to many things that upset you now. Is it worth losing your joy over bad traffic or something someone said that was offensive?

If you let a grouchy boss or a bitter relative keep you from being happy, it’s your fault. You are as happy as you want to be. You have to put your foot down and say, “This is the day the Lord has made. I’m not going to let what people do or don’t do, what they say or don’t say, or what I have or don’t have keep me from being happy. I’ve made up my mind. I’m going to enjoy this day.”
