Our Love Warns of God’s Wrath – John Piper

Our Love Warns of God’s Wrath – John Piper

Our love for one another in the face of persecution warns our opponents of the judgment to come. In this lab, John Piper reminds us that the life that God calls us to is one of fearless unity.

Some questions to ask as you read and study Philippians 1:27–28:

  1. Who are Christians’ “opponents” today? Are there any in your life?
  2. How does fearless unity among Christians function as a sign to opponents of their destruction (Philippians 1:27–28)? Can you think of any examples of this?
  3. In what ways can you live fearlessly with believers around you to show that this world is not your home, your god is not your belly, the gospel is true, and Jesus is worthy?

Principle for Bible Reading

Get a View of the Landscape

Reading through whole books of the Bible in one sitting can be extremely beneficial. We may miss the overarching message and big themes of a book (the forest) by studying only verse-by-verse (the trees). This is especially helpful in the book of Philippians because several themes like joy, unity, and love are repeated throughout.
