Today we bring you a very interesting discussion from Pastor Craig Groeschel, which is titled “The Power of Memory.” Pastor Groeschel started by telling us that you do not know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory—a quote from a famous theologian, Dr. Suess. The text for the message is from the book of Luke 2.
From the scripture text, the Bible tells us that Mary pondered over and treasured the things that the angel had told her. The question is, “What Did She Think and What Did She Treasure?”
According to Pastor Groeschel, Mary must have pondered on three things:
- God’s promises from the past
- God’s peace in the present
- God’s power in the future
With all the events surrounding the birth of Jesus, Mary must have thought about the 700-year-old prophecy in the book of Isaiah. Even when they had taken Jesus to the temple for baptism, Simon had made a very heartbreaking yet powerful statement. He told Jesus’ parents that he was sent by God but that many would oppose him.
The prophet looked at Mary and said, “And a sword will pierce your very soul.” There was no way she could have known that the world’s greatest blessing was going to be her greatest break.
However, when you have walked with God just like Mary and seen his faithfulness in the past, even in the middle of your pain, you can still say, “I trust Him.”
Mary trusted him during the three days she watched her son die, and the tomb could not keep Jesus back.Jesus arose from the tomb, the perfect sacrifice for our sins.No matter what you have done, your sin can be forgiven.
Pastor Groeschel urged us in this message to reflect on the goodness of God. He is Emmanuel, “God with us.” There is nothing you can do to make him love you less.
God is with us; ponder, embrace, and savor it in this moment.
