Pastor John Gray shares the second part of the message at the Relentless Church which he titled “We Are The Church II”. The text for the message is from Matthew 16:13-20 and the book of Colossians 1:9 -20
Starting the message, Pastor Gray takes us back to Matthew 6:13 where Jesus is asking the people who they said he is. He pointed out that it is possible to be with Jesus and not be able to recognize him.
Speaking on the United States election on Tuesday and its attendant consequences as it relates to the laws made and morality. Pastor gray tell us that the Church ought not be at war with the culture.
The problem with the Church is that the moment we pit ourselves against the culture, we are no longer relevant to it.Our war is with the devil and not with the culture.
The reason why the Church is not to be at war with the culture is because we are called to love and influence the culture instead. What we should be at war with is the devil and the principalities and powers.
Also, he tells us that your neighbor is not the enemy. The enemy is the devil and he is the one influencing your neighbor. There is only one church and we ought not to be divided by denomination, color or construct.
Next, Pastor Gray tell us that the text from Col 1 made it clear who the head of the church is. Unfortunately, we do not hear about Jesus enough anymore on Sundays because everyone is out with their own agenda and personalities. The church now has factions and everyone is fighting for one position or the other.
If Jesus is the head of the church, then his personality must be our (the church) personality. We have to love the things he loves and hate the things he hates. We are also to great people the same way he treated people.
Finally, he tells us that God wants his church to be without any agenda except declaring Jesus as lord. Anything that doesn’t line up should not be on the pulpit.
The church is called to do three thing namely:
- Love Like Jesus
- Live Like Jesus
- Lead Like Jesus
