Prayer is not a way of getting God to do something. Rather, prayer is a way of getting God to do what he has planned.
while we wait for God to do what he wants to do, what he has promised to do, and what we want him to do, all we have to do is pray (1king 17 v 41).

For us to hear from God, we must have a relationship and that relationship is through prayer. In verse 42 of the 1king 17, Elijah prayed and that’s how he was able to hear the sound of the rain which Ahab, the king couldn’t hear.
