Teaching on John The Baptist, the pastor once wrote on Instagram:
“Turns out, “I must decrease that the ‘next’ may increase”
is easier said than done.
Ask John the Baptist!
Those words came out of his mouth like honey – but his actions choked like locust.
“Are you the Messiah,
or do we look for another”
the Baptist asked.
WHAT?
John, you were there when
the Heavens opened.
You heard the voice from Heaven saying, “This is my beloved son in whom I’m well pleased…”
Remember the dove & love from up above?
In humility that day,
the Baptist accepted that the mantle would soon be transferred.
Ah!
But memories blur.
Eyes dim.
Minds tire.
Hearts taint.
John, now in prison (of the past), doubts the promise & person of Messiah.
He sends his disciples to question the Christ, “Are you He?” Christ didn’t stutter. “Tell John, The blind see, the lame walk…and oh, blessed is he who isn’t offended”
Pause.
Then, as the disciples of John walk far enough away from hearing the following historic words chiseled in eternity,
Christ tells the crowd, “Never a man before or ever will be, is greater than John the Baptist!”
But this was John’s battle
to win or lose.
Left alone, alone to do the decrease dance.
John would lose his head.
Did he lose his heart?
Did his zealous heart
turn jealous?
How long must the next generation have to wait before receiving the fathers honoring their sons as fathers?
Generations rising up & against generations.
My heart is saddened for the prophets and fathers who won’t give the next generation their time & torch.
The future weeps in the prison of the past…”
