Pope Francis 3rd day Apostolic Journey in Hungary

Pope Francis’s 3rd day Apostolic Journey in Hungary. Having spent two days of his 3-day Apostolic visit in Budapest, Hungary, Pope Francis began his 3rd and last day with the celebration of Holy Mass in Kossuth Lajos Square in central Budapest.

The Holy Father reflected his homily on  Jesus the good Shepherd. “Jesus, like a shepherd who goes in search of his flock, came to find us when we were lost.” “Like a shepherd, He came to snatch us from death,” he said.

Pope went on to explain that all Christians are “summoned to receive and spread” the love of Christ, “to make His fold inclusive and never to exclude others.”

At the end of the mass, Pope expressed his gratitude to the Hungarians for his warm welcome. He expressed closeness to the “sick and the elderly, of those who were unable to be present with us, of those who are lonely and those who have lost faith in God and hope in life.” He prayed  also for peace in “the neighboring, beleaguered Ukrainian people and the Russian people, both consecrated to you.”

After the Sunday Mass, Pope had his final meeting with the Péter Pázmány Catholic University. He according to Vatican News addressed the representatives of Hungarian academicians and exponents of culture. He stressed the need for them to be patient as knowledge “entails a constant planting of seeds that take root in the soil of reality and bear rich fruit.”

Sunday evening brought to an end the Pontiff’s 3-day Apostolic Journey focused on “Christ is our future”.  Consequently, the Holy Father bid farewell to Hungarians. Hungarian President, Katalin Novák, and a delegation of civil and Church representatives saw him off. He departed from Budapest‘s Ferenc Liszt International Airport after a brief farewell ceremony.
