Pope Francis on World Water Day – Right to Water is Right to Life

Pope Francis on World Water Day commemoration addressed the International Community on universal access to safe water. The Catholic and Vatican City head in a Twitter post yesterday, noted that the right to water is the right to life. At the same time adding that it is also right to the future and right to hope. Pope wrote this while addressing the International community.

He prescribed that all may work together to ensure adequate provision of safe and accessible water for all mankind. He wrote, “The International community must work together to guarantee access and sanitation services for everyone. So that the right to water, which is none other than the right right to life, to a future, to hope, might become a reality at the universal level”

Speaking during the Weekly General Audience as Vatican News reported, Pope Francis also addressed his audience over World Water Day. He warned that water must never be abused, wasted, or cause conflicts.

Conversely, he advised that water be maintained for the well-being of all and the coming generation. “Water must never be the object of waste or abuse, or provide the grounds for war. But must be preserved for our benefit and that of future generations” He said.

“We feel the beauty of creation and the awareness of the challenges involved in caring for  It.” Pope further said,  calling to mind the words of  St. Francis of Assisi in his Canticle of Creation, “Praised be you, my Lord, through sister Water, who is very useful and humble precious chaste”.

It was also made known that Pope Francis revealed that the United Nations’ second Water Conference would be held at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
