Some reactions has followed the leaked Supreme Court draft majority opinion overturning the decision in Roe v. Wade. The United States Supreme Court is making moves to overturn the controversial 1973 decision Roe v. Wade. This is according to a draft majority opinion leaked to Politico.
According to Politico , a draft opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito in February for the case Dobbs v. Jackson will overturn the decision in Roe by a vote of 5-4.
Politico however said that the first draft does not mean the decision will be overturned, as justices are known to “change their votes as draft opinions circulate and major decisions can be subject to multiple drafts and vote-trading, sometimes until just days before a decision is unveiled.”
News of the possible overturning of Roe’s case gathered attention on social media and in the political realm, as many groups expressed their hopes or concerns over the leaked document.
These reactions include concerns raised by pro-choice groups and cautious optimism from pro-life groups that have long wanted states to regain control over their laws governing abortion.
The pro-life group National Right to Life Committee released a statement withholding direct comment until a final decision is released by the high Court. They quoted Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch: “We will let the Supreme Court speak for itself and wait for the Court’s official opinion.”
In July 2021, National Right to Life filed an amicus brief in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson alongside the Louisiana Right to Life Federation, arguing in favor of overturning Roe’s case.
