Sarah Jakes Roberts: Your Drought Is Not Your Destiny

Today we present a throwback message from Sarah Jakes Robert titled “Your Drought Is Not Your Destiny”. The excerpt is from the sermon titled “Indeed, Don’t Settle For Safe”. Scripture text for the message is from 1 Kings 18 : 9.

In the scripture text, Obadiah finds himself in a very peculiar situation – a drought. He was paying for the mistakes of King Ahab’s wickedness. However, he still kept faith even though he was in the environment where his faith couldn’t work.

Obadiah and King Ahab had a meeting and they agreed to go to the place (Samaria) where there used to be water. There intention was to see if there is anything green to they can feed their livestock. According to Sarah, what they were doing was looking at the carrying capacity of their environment.

In ecology, the carrying capacity is a term for the number of species an environment can support indefinitely.

While Obadiah and Ahab were looking at the carrying capacity of Samaria, the Lord was trying to show Obadiah that his faith had a carrying capacity. he had figured out that to survive the drought, he needs enough faith.

Sarah tells us that our faith, our spirituality ends up with these carrying capacities. It is where we do not dream anymore and we don’t push beyond the limits anymore. The reason is that the last time we stepped out in faith, it didn’t work out the way we wanted. This causes us to learn to live life safe, even if it means living in a drought.

The thing that is wrong with being comfortable living in a drought is that it attracts only thirsty people.

We have to stop getting fooled into thinking that just because we fear the Lord, we are different from the people who live in wickedness. Until, you start exercising your faith, you are not any different.

Stop being comfortable living in drought. Do not believe that the drought is in your final answer. There is a well available in the inside of you. All you have to do is to step out in faith and tap from it.
