Career

Following her graduation from college, Walsh launched her career as a contemporary Christian singer. Before going solo in 1981, Walsh performed with the band known as “The Oasis” and served as an evangelist for the British branch of Youth For Christ. At this period, she also collaborated closely with keyboardist Chris Rolinson, who made a significant contribution to the distinctive sound of her debut album in the “new wave” genre, Future Eyes. Additionally, he accompanied her on her debut US tour, where she served as Phil Keaggy’s opening act.

Walsh was asked to co-host Pat Robertson’s television talk show, The 700 Club, in 1987 because she had achieved some success as a CCM artist in both the UK and the US. In addition to hosting her own talk program, Heart to Heart with Sheila Walsh, Walsh held this position until 1992.

She sought therapy for her sadness after leaving Pat Robertson’s businesses in 1992, and eventually went back to school at Fuller Theological Seminary in California to pursue a doctorate in theology. However, Pat Robertson claimed that her leaving CBN was due to a “nervous breakdown” brought on by the extreme demands of her position there. He urged his audience to pray for her and ask God to grant her the stamina to carry on accomplishing His mission.

Later, she published a book named Honestly in which she wrote about her experiences with depression and her Christian faith.

Walsh’s writings since the latter 1990s have focused on contemporary women’s spirituality and their particular relationship to God.
