Today, we bring you a message from Pastor Steven Furtick titled, “How to Defy the Default Reaction.” Pastor Steven teaches that just as we brush our teeth in the morning, so we have to do with our beliefs. We have to know that our awareness of how we are doesn’t have to become indicative of where we end. We cannot use authenticity as permission to sin.
We can’t just wake up and think a certain way and act a certain way if we belong to God. God said we should be righteous, and we have to believe there is power in Christ for us to decide who we want to become. We need to have the desire to be who God created us to be. We should not accept our brokenness. Maybe you went through a hard time; it’s time to let it go and become who God created you to be.
When we wake up in the morning, we need to get some of God’s word in our mind and soul. We need to keep a little gratitude journal, where we write down the things for which we are grateful. Keep a little gratitude journal, where we write down the things for which we are grateful. God has called us to do something new in the new year. You are not supposed to like the new you when you start doing it. We have to improve ourselves in order to reach the new level. Your default is not your destiny; your decisions are.
Paul said to put off the old way of seeing yourself and put on the attitude of Christ. Our new self lives within us. We have a decision to make every day of our lives about who we want to be. The old self is being corrupted by its deceitful desires. In order to see ourselves as God sees us, it’s a matter of practice.
