Steven Furtick shares this sermon titled “Value Check: You’re More Important Than You Know” where he asks us to let God’s presence determine your priorities. The founder of Elevation Church reminded us that what God has for us is bigger than our expectations and He will guide us along the way. This is an excerpt from his sermon “You Must Be Important.”
He said it seems like lately he is praying more and more, “God, show me what’s important from your perspective.” The pastor is afraid of living his life wasting his energy on things that seem important to him only to find out they weren’t as important as he thought they were. He is praying more and more in the moment, just a very short prayer, “God, show me what’s important.” “Show me the difference between what’s urgent and what’s important.”
Some things that will be an emergency for other people cannot become your priority just because they didn’t make a plan. You need to seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness. He said he does not always know what that looks like in this moment, because his role in the kingdom consists of multiple roles.
On one level he is a pastor who needs to prepare a sermon. On another level he is a dad with a kid who wants to throw the football. He said he knows God is more important than his son’s desire to throw a football, but the fact of the matter is if he drops dead there’d be another preacher standing there but his son has only one dad.
