Terri Savelle Foy: 6 Bad Habits to Break in 2023

We bring you today’s message from Pastor Terri Savelle Foy, which is titled “6 Bad Habits to Break in 2023.”

Pastor Terri shared with us the six biggest habits that could be keeping us from achieving our dreams and reaching our goals.

  •  Overspending:. The truth is that unsuccessful people don’t have financial goals, so they spend a lot more than they earn. But the key to getting ahead financially this year is: if you don’t have the money to get what you want, don’t get it. If you can’t pay cash for it, like the dress, that new purse, that makeup, or that dinner, don’t get it. If you can’t afford it right now, save up and earn it, then enjoy the thrill of knowing you truly earned this thing. We have to know that the biggest drain of money spent is on eating out; it’s the little expenses that drain our accounts, and making food at home will help us to save some money and then have the money in our savings account. Determine how much cash you can spend each week.
  • Watching too much TV: Life is meant to be lived, not watched. Unsuccessful people waste valuable time watching others live their dreams, and it’s easy to do. Watching TV is just as much of a habit as brushing our teeth. We come in from work, plop down on a sofa, grab the remote, and watch TV for four hours without achieving anything. In just 60 minutes, you could clean an entire room, read a couple chapters, walk off a few hundred calories, become more fluent in a new language, learn a new lesson, and brainstorm an idea that could change your life. Set a goal to eliminate one hour a night of watching TV and do something productive that gets you closer to your goals.
  • Criticizing others: Some of us are so busy watching other people live their lives that we miss out on our own. Let’s focus on our unique goals, dreams, and aspirations instead of worrying about what everybody else is doing. Gossiping is like throwing a boomerang; it comes back to you. “Big minds talk about ideas,” “average minds talk about events,” and “small minds talk about people.” So when you hear people engaging in criticism about others, divert the conversation to something positive.
  • Hanging out with people who have no vision Everybody knows that their closest friends can have an effect on their lives. But what most people don’t realize is how profound this influence is on your level of success. They affect your self-confidence, your beliefs, your behaviors, your spending habits, your health choices, and your religious and political views. So-called successful people are very careful and intentional about their inner circle.
  • Being late: For some people, being on time seems almost impossible. Even if they have all day to prepare, they’re still running around in a frenzy trying to get out the door 10 minutes late.
  • Blaming others: When you look for someone to blame for everything that goes wrong in your life, you send the message that you are powerless.
