Victoria Osteen Message – What defines you?

I heard a story about a young man who was looking down as he was walking one day and found a very valuable gold coin. He was so thrilled that he continued to look down at the ground for coins wherever he went…for the rest of his life! He did occasionally find other less valuable coins, but he never saw the beautiful flowers, trees, mountains and skies that he was meant to enjoy. He let that one event dictate his entire life when there was so much more in store for him.

It’s easy to allow an event in our lives to define us—maybe it’s a broken marriage, maybe the loss of a job, maybe family troubles. We wrongly think, “There’s nothing I can do to ever get out of this or make things better.” Sometimes we can get so distracted by our circumstances that all we do is look down and lose hope. We don’t see where we’re going, and so, we have a tendency to just stop and settle right where we are.

What Jesus Had To Do According To Victoria Osteen Message – What defines you

This is what Jesus had to do. When He was on the cross and in great agony and pain, He refused to allow this one event to define His life and keep Him there. The Scripture says, “Looking to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:2).

He lifted His eyes and saw the joy that was on the other side of the cross so that He could endure where He was at and get to where He was going. Looked forward to the finished product of the joy of conquering death for us and sitting down at the Father’s right hand. He said, “I’m not staying here. This is not my destiny. I’m moving forward. God is going to do great things through this.” There was a purpose for the cross, but Jesus didn’t get stuck on that cross.

Don’t let something that happened in the past define your life. If you’re going to get to the place God wants you to be, the writer of Hebrews says to look to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. All that you will ever need is found in Him—all the provision, the healing, the protection, the blessings. Just look up and let the King of glory come in and do great and mighty things!
