“My husband @toureroberts gave an analogy about the verdict that I couldn’t shake. His was much better than mine, but it’s kinda like this:
Have you ever had someone borrow money from you that you really didn’t have to give? Of course, they never pay you back when they say they will.
You continue to make life happen without what you’re missing. It’s hard. It’s rough, but you know how to make it work.
Then one day when you’re running low on funds that stimmy hits their account early they can finally pay you back. On one hand there’s joy and gratitude, because you’ve been walking around broke for too long. On the other hand there’s absolutely nothing, because…well…. they didn’t really do you a favor they just did what was right.
For far too long we’ve witnessed a “justice” system do what was easy so that the structure could stay in place. Right and easy don’t always share the same roof.
We hold on to the glimmer of hope today has offered as we forge towards a brighter tomorrow. May we find a way to choose what is right over and over again even when it’s difficult, even if it means we have to recreate the system, even if it means we hold tough conversations.
There are lives depending on it.”
