Bishop T.D. Jakes Shares Heartfelt Reunion Experience
The Potters House Church founder and author, Bishop T.D. Jakes, recently took to social media to share a heartwarming story about a family reunion that turned into a life-changing experience.
Jakes revealed that he had taken a weekend break to prioritize his well-being before the recently concluded “Woman Evolve 24” conference led by his daughter Sarah Jakes Roberts.
“I took a weekend to breathe before #WomanEvolve24, learning to prioritize myself over others’ expectations,” Jakes wrote. “It turned out to be one of the most incredible weekends of my life.”
Accompanied by his youngest son, grandson, and sister, Jakes attended a paternal family reunion in Phenix, Alabama. The reunion led to a series of unexpected discoveries, as they met relatives Jakes never knew existed.
Jakes’ grandmother had rarely spoken about her husband’s siblings, especially after he was tragically murdered by racists in Mississippi when she was just 22 and pregnant with Jakes’ uncle. The revelation of this long-lost family connection was both overwhelming and deeply moving for Jakes.
The reunion allowed him to connect with hundreds of cousins, visit the graves of his ancestors, and learn about a family lineage filled with preachers. The experience was marked by laughter, tears, and plenty of good food.
Jakes shared a beautiful clip of the reunion, capturing the joy and emotion of the experience.
The 67-year-old preacher expressed his amazement at discovering long-lost family members at his age. The reunion was a life-changing experience, reaffirming the importance of family and the power of connection. Jakes encouraged his followers to reconnect with their loved ones.
“At my age, I never thought I’d uncover these missing pieces of our story,” Jakes shared. “Reuniting with family was life-changing. Family is everything, imperfections and all. Reconnect if you can.”
