Beth, who is well-known for her independent spirit, described how God blessed her with two daughters, Amanda and Melissa, who have grown into remarkable women. While she would have loved to raise sons, she cherishes the tiny women God placed in her arms at 22 and 25. Now adults, they’ve become her caretakers during a time when she needed them most.
Nearly two weeks ago, Beth underwent surgery that left her temporarily unable to care for herself, a stark contrast to her usual self-reliance. Amanda stayed with her in the hospital, providing round-the-clock care, and continued to assist her at home until Melissa took over. This role reversal was a new experience for Beth, who had always been the one to care for her daughters, never imagining the day would come when they’d be caring for her in such an intimate way.
She shared how, after surgery, she couldn’t perform basic tasks—like getting herself into bed, showering, or even dressing—without assistance. Her husband Keith, while wonderful in many ways, didn’t claim to be a caretaker at this level, making her daughters’ help all the more vital.
Beth reflected on how tender it was to be woken up in the middle of the night by her daughters, who softly said, “Momma, let’s sit you up and give you this medicine.” This moment, she realized, mirrored the many nights she had spent caring for them when they were little, pressing her cheek to their foreheads and soothing them when they were sick.
The past two weeks, Beth says, have been a gift—a time filled with tender moments and deep gratitude for the company of her daughters. She acknowledges the fierce protectiveness, humor, and tenderness of these marvelous women, calling them gifts from her gracious God. As she continues to recover, Beth carries the memories of this time with her, grateful for the role her daughters played in her healing and the peace it brought to her soul.
