Vlad Savchuk Calls for Christian Engagement in Politics, Warns Against “Political Spirit”
Hungrygen Church pastor Vlad Savchuk has sparked discussion online with his insights on Christian engagement in politics and warning against “political spirit.”
In a social media post, Pastor Savchuk emphasized the importance of Christian involvement in politics, stating, “We should be involved, we should vote, we should pray. And if we are called we, should go into politics like in any sphere of our society because we are called to go into all the world and make disciples of all nations.”
He acknowledged the criticism Christians sometimes face for being “too political.” However, he argues that the issue lies not with religion, but with the increasing influence of religious and spiritual values within political discourse. He also argues that lack of Christian engagement creates a vacuum that “will be filled by the kingdom of darkness.”
“It is not that religion is becoming political as much as the politics have become spiritual and religious. And we know that if Christians are not in every sphere of society being salt and light that vacuum will be filled by something else. And it will be filled by the kingdom of darkness, so we need to be involved,” Savchuk argues.
While Pastor Savchuk encourages Christians to be involved in politics, he also, cautioned against a “political spirit.” He identified signs of this spirit as prioritizing national identity over “heavenly citizenship,” prioritizing news over scripture, valuing political affiliation over church family, and equating one’s country with God’s kingdom.
Savchuk emphasizes that the goal is not to “make our nation Christian” but to “make people in our nation disciples of Jesus.” He believes societal change comes from individual transformation, not political dominance.
He concludes by calling for revival in churches. “As revival hits our churches, it is needful to spill to our communities, bringing reformation and healing to our land.
