Fasting and praying are used as tools for spiritual discipline. Fasting and praying have been practiced by believers for centuries.

Fasting involves giving up food and other material comforts in order to concentrate on prayer and seek God’s will.

There are many advantages to prayer and fasting, such as spiritual development, breakthroughs, and healing.

There are several instances of fasting in the Bible, from Jesus in the wilderness to Moses on Mount Sinai.

Nehemiah cried, fasted, and prayed for a group of afflicted Israelites when he learned of their plight.

  1. Matthew 6:16–18: “And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces so that their fasting may be seen by others.
    Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you fast, anoint your head, and wash your face, your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father, who is in secret. And your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you.”
  2. Matthew 4:2: And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.
