Challenges of Being a Spiritual Son – Pastor Toure Roberts: Best selling author and the lead pastor of The ONE Church, Pastor Toure Roberts has shared on the challenges of being a spiritual son.
Pastor Toure shared this mini sermon on his Instagram, pointing out on what it takes to be a spirtual offspring under a spiritual father.
“Many ask if a leader can be their spiritual parent, but the greater question is do they have what it takes to be a spiritual offspring?
It’s typically harder to be a spiritual son than it is to be a spiritual father. Can you handle correction and it not push you away or make you resentful? Do delays in response make you bitter because you interpreted the busyness of a successful person as a rejection of your person?
Can you trust their guidance when it conflicts with your desires or timeline and believe it’s coming from a pure and wise place or do you suspect ulterior motives and settle into the spirit of suspicion or rebellion.
Can you be loyal and steadfast when it isn’t convenient, and most of all, can you handle not just their divinity — but their humanity as well?
To be fair, not every elder is worthy of that level of commitment, and often “parents” who seek that role in your life must be carefully vetted.
We all must definitely choose our spiritual parents and mentors well, but sufficeth to say, the real question in your quest is not what they can be to you, but what you can be in the relationship.
It takes maturity, character and trust to be worthy of a quality spiritual parent. But, when you get it right, and by God’s design, the rewards are destiny-shaping and produce blessings beyond!”.
