Charles R. Swindoll, commonly known as Chuck Swindoll, is a prominent American evangelical pastor, author, and radio preacher.

Biography

Charles Rozell Swindoll was born on the 18th day of October, 1934 in El Campo, Texas. He was the third of three children born to Earl and Lovell Swindoll.

For his High School, he attended Charles H. Milby High School in Houston. Growing up he had a stutter which made speaking in public very difficult for him. However, he was able to manage it in high school and he credits his drama teacher, Dick Nieme, for helping him manage his stutter.

Chuck was a member of the school marching band and orchestra. By dedication, he learned to play all of the instruments in the woodwind section, although the clarinet remained his primary instrument.

After his graduation from high school, he studied mechanical engineering while working for Reed Roller Bit Company in Houston, Texas.

Swindoll fulfilled his military service obligation with the United States Marine Corps. He was first in San Francisco, before he was sent to the Japanese island of Okinawa. While in the Marines, part of his duty included playing in the Marine Corps Marching Band.

On June 18, 1955, Swindoll married Cynthia Ann Parker, a former pianist in a Baptist Church in Galena Park, Texas. The couple had four children, 10 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

In 1959, he was honourably discharges from service. Swindoll proceeded to the Dallas Theological Seminary, where he graduated magna cum laude four years later.It was here that he earned his Master of Theology degree.

In 2020, Chuck Swindoll retired as the senior pastor of Stonebriar Community Church but continued to serve as the Chancellor of Dallas Theological Seminary.

Chuck Swindoll Church

Swindoll began his ministry as a pastor in full-time church work in Walthill, Nebraska, and then in Irving, Texas. He later became the president of the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA) and served in that role from 1965 to 1966.

Swindoll was ordained into the ministry in 1963. He served in Dallas at Grace Bible Church, under J. Dwight Pentecost, for two years. He has since held senior pastorates in Waltham, Massachusetts (1965–67), Irving, Texas (1967–71), and Fullerton, California (1971–94). He started his current senior pastorate in Frisco, Texas in 1998. In July 1994, Swindoll became the president of Dallas Theological Seminary and now serves as its chancellor

In 1998 Swindoll founded Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco. The church first held services at Collin County Community College (now Collin College). Eventually, they then moved to their permanent home on Legendary Drive. The church is known for its missionary work in India and in other countries. However, the Stonebriar Community Church is not affiliated with any particular denomination.

Chuck Swindoll Insight for Living:

Swindoll also founded “Insight for Living,” a radio broadcast ministry, in 1979. This ministry has since grown to reach a global audience through radio, books, and other resources..

Insight for Living produces a radio program of the same name on Christian and non-Christian radio stations around the world. The program is heard on more than 2000 stations, as well as being webcast. It is also translated into several languages.

the Insight for Living radio ministry offices are now located in Frisco.
