Dollar is also the head of Creflo Dollar Ministerial Association (formerly called International Covenant Ministries), Creflo Dollar Ministries, and Arrow Records.
Biography
Pastor Creflo Dollar was born on January 28, 1968. His father was a police officer named Creflo Augustus Dollar Sr. There is not much information on his siblings or his growing up.
Creflo Dollar gained significant popularity through his television program called “Changing Your World,” which is broadcast on various networks.
As a proponent of the prosperity gospel, Dollar preaches the belief that God’s will is for Christians to be financially prosperous and physically healthy. Creflo Dollar attended the Baptist Church School as a child. In 1984, he graduated from the West Georgia College Carrollton from where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
In addition, he obtained a masters and doctorate degree in Counseling. The Oral Roberts University also conferred an honorary doctorate of divinity on him in 1998.
Family Life
Pastor Taffi Dollar is the wife of Pastor Creflo Dollar. The duo have been married since 1987. God blessed their marriage with five children; Gregory, Jordan, Jeremy, Alexandria, and Lauren Dollar.
Ministry
Pastor Dollar was an entrepreneur before he ventured into ministry. Dollar began developing World Changers Ministries Christian Center in 1986.
Dollar held the church’s first worship service in the cafeteria of Kathleen Mitchell Elementary School in College Park, with eight people in attendance. Eventually, Dollar renamed the ministry to World Changers Church International (WCCI).
At this time, the congregation moved from the cafeteria to a dedicated chapel. The church hold Four services each Sunday, and Creflo also added a weekly radio broadcast.
WCCI relocated to its current location, the 8,500-seat World Dome, on December 24, 1995. According to the church, the World Dome, which cost close to $20 million to construct, was not financed by a bank.
The church reported having about 30,000 members as of 2007 and gross monetary receipts of $70 million in 2006.
For a new church facility in New York, Creflo Dollar Ministries leased Loews Paradise Theater in the Bronx in October 2012.
Additionally, Dollar engages in televangelism, talks at conferences, and writes about his gospel of money. He is known for controversial teachings regarding prosperity theology.
In 2017, it was rumored that Pastor Dollar had died in a plane crash. It was said that his private jet had crashed shortly after take-off from Hartsfield-Jackson Airport, Atlanta.
Controversy
Dollar has a history of receiving criticisms for living a lavish life. He has two Rolls-Royce vehicles, a private jet, and expensive properties including a million-dollar home in Atlanta, a $2.5 million home in Demarest, New Jersey, and a Manhattan residence that he purchased for $2.5 million in 2006 (equivalent to $3.4 million in 2021).
However Dollar won’t reveal how much he earns. Creflo Dollar Ministries was given a grade of “F” (failure) for financial openness because it refused to provide any financial information to an independent audit.
The preacher was one of six televangelists who were the focus of an inquiry conducted in 2007 under the direction of United States Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa, who served as the ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee.
Grassley asked for financial information to determine whether Dollar made any personal profit from financial donations and requested that Dollar’s ministry make the information available by December 6, 2007. The investigation also asked for information from five other televangelists: Benny Hinn, Kenneth Copeland, Eddie L. Long, Joyce Meyer, and Paula White.
Dollar contested the probe, arguing that the proper governmental entity to examine religious groups is the IRS, not the Committee on Finance. Dollar and three others were not cooperative, and the probe concluded in 2011 without any charges.
