There are moments in life that leave our souls wounded, and the pain from these wounds can hurt so deeply. Sometimes we can’t let them go and move on; instead, we become paralyzed by our pain, stuck and hurting. Joyce teaches us about how Christ’s redeeming love can transform our lives. People with wounded souls want to control everything, and some of us are tired already, but we have to understand that we’re not in control anyway. People that are wounded don’t become controllers because they’re mean; they don’t even really understand what they’re doing.
People with wounded souls are controllers because they are afraid of getting hurt; people who are controllers are not necessarily wicked; they may just be afraid that if they don’t stay in control, somebody’s going to take advantage of them. We can’t trust people, but we can trust God with everything in our lives. We have to give up trying to be in control of everything and put ourselves in God’s hands. We have to come to a point where we know that God is our vindicator, and he’s the one who’s going to have to fix what’s wrong in our lives. Wounded people get very good at living a life of pretense, never expressing their true feelings or thoughts about anything; they just simply do what they think everybody wants them to do so they can keep them happy. We have to give our souls to God so that he can heal us and so that we can live the life that Jesus made available for us.
