Lisa Bevere Faces Backlash Over Repost on Taliban Women’s Rights Restrictions

Renowned Christian author and speaker Lisa Bevere, has come under fire after reposting a social media post highlighting the Taliban’s recent decree restricting women’s rights in Afghanistan.

The post, originally shared by Emily Shrader an Israeli journalist and social activist, condemned the Taliban’s decision to prohibit women from showing their faces or speaking in public and mandate the full niqab.

The post reads: “Taliban has passed a new law prohibiting women from showing their faces or speaking (!) in public and requiring full niqab. No functioning society can succeed by erasing women from the public sphere. While the world focuses on Gaza despite exaggerated claims and disinformation, they’re ignoring ACTUAL human rights atrocities taking place through the codification of gender apartheid in Afghanistan. Posted @withregram • @emilyintelaviv We must wakeup! My heart breaks for the woman of Afghanistan.”

Under the reposted statement, Bevere, who is a vocal advocate for women’s rights, expressed her heartbreak for the women of Afghanistan and questioned the actions of American women in light of their own freedoms.

“These women are our sisters. Their oppression should weigh on us all,” Bevere writes. “The Darkness longs to shroud all daughters. At the same time how are American women using their voices? Our freedoms? Do we pursue wisdom or foolishness? Debauchery or godliness? Spirit led Prayers or mindless protests? My heart is almost as heavy for the daughters of our nation as it is for the daughters of their’s. There is a very evident Fight against female going on!”

However, Bevere’s repost sparked a wave of criticism from social media users who misinterpreted her post, believing that she was the original author of the statement. Many condemned her for downplaying the atrocities taking place in Gaza by characterizing the claims as “exaggerated” and “disinformation.”

Several Afghan Christians, whose relatives live in Afghanistan, also expressed their disappointment with Bevere’s statement, urging her to delete the line about Gaza. They emphasized that the suffering in Gaza is just as horrific as that experienced by their people in Afghanistan.

“As an Afghan Christian woman whose relatives live in Afghanistan, I implore you to PLEASE delete the line in the caption about “exaggerations and disinformation” in Gaza. Gaza is suffering just as horrifically as my people in Afghanistan,” one user writes.

Amidst the growing backlash, some users defended Bevere, explaining that she was simply reposting the original post and did not intend to diminish the suffering in Gaza.

“She reposted what the reporter said. In regards to the ACTUAL comment,” one user pointed out. “She continued, @lisabevere comments are “these women are sisters” Y’all always want to reach and not read lol.”

As the controversy continues to unfold, Lisa Bevere has yet to publicly address the backlash directly. Her stance on the issue remains a subject of intense debate among social media users and religious communities.
