Michael Catt died at 70, barely a month after his family announced their decision to put him in hospice care following his worsening health condition while undergoing Prostate cancer treatment.
Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia, where Catt served as a long-time senior pastor announced in a Monday Twitter post the passing on of its former pastor.
“Sherwood Church is saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Michael C. Catt, our beloved fifth pastor who faithfully shepherded Sherwood for 31 years, the tweet read. “Join us in prayer for the Catt family and all those who knew Michael as pastor and friend.”
Subsequently, Catt’s daughter Hayley Catt disclosed Catt’s funeral plans in a Twitter post. “A Celebration of the Life & Legacy of @MichaelCatt will be held at @SherwoodChurch in Albany, Ga on Tuesday, June 20. Visitation will be in the Atrium from 10:00 am – 12:30 pm and the Service will be at 1:30 pm.”
After 5 years of battling with prostate cancer, Catt’s family took the decision to place him in hospice, noting he has “just a few months left on this side of heaven.”
“In recent months, his health has taken a turn for the worse. And he has had several surgeries, hospitalizations, and emergency room visits. Recently doctors found a tumor in his brain stem. They do not recommend operating on the tumor.”
“Because of this, we have chosen to forego any future cancer treatments, with the goal now being to make him as comfortable as possible through palliative care for the few months he has left this side of heaven, ” a tweet posted by the family read.
Michael Catt served as senior pastor of Sherwood Baptist Church from 1989 to 2021. He also was the executive producer of several faith-based movies among which are “Facing the Giants,” “Fireproof” and “Courageous.”
Catt is survived by his wife Terri, two daughters, an adopted granddaughter, and a son-in-law.
