Mount Zion Baptist Church Celebrates 157 Years Anniversary

Mount Zion Baptist Church Celebrates 157 Years Anniversary: The historic Mount Zion Baptist Church in Nashville led by Bishop Joseph Walker III has celebrated its 157th anniversary

It was a joyous and memorable day as the church community gathered Sunday for a special anniversary service to celebrate the “monumental milestone” of the church’s 157 years of “reaching the lost at any cost”.

The special service tagged “Ridiculous Faith Produces Ridiculous Blessings” according to Joseph Walker’s Monday Instagram post was filled with music, worship, and reflections on the church’s rich history.

The service began with a rousing song performance by Dottie Peoples. Afterward, a powerful message was delivered by Bishop Paul S. Morton, the Presiding Bishop and founder of Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship International whom Walker III succeded following his resignation as the Presiding Bishop in 2013.

“Happy anniversary Mount Zion!! Today, we celebrated a monumental milestone in our ministry — 157 years of reaching the lost at any cost,” Walker wrote in the caption of videos from the event he shared.

“Dottie Peoples sang the house down at our 11:15am service and Bishop Paul S. Morton reminded us that ridiculous faith produces ridiculous blessings,” he added.

The service also included a special recognition of the church’s “Senior Saints,” who were honored for their many years of service and dedication.

“And of course, no Church Anniversary is complete without recognizing our amazing Senior Saints — you are our foundation & legacy,” the caption further read.

Mount Zion Baptist Church is one of the oldest African-American churches in Nashville, Tennesse. The church has long served as a beacon of hope and inspiration, offering its members spiritual, moral, educational, and financial support.

Last month, the church set a precedent with ground-breaking educational support for students and universities. It awarded over $500,000 to universities and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs)  on the occasion of its College Sunday event.

Additionally, the church established a historic Purge Fund for Tennessee State University (TSU) and Fisk University.
