NFL Star Jim Kelly Gets Baptized

Jim Kelly, the American former football quarterback star who played in the National Football League (NFL) for 11 seasons with the Buffalo Bills says “Becoming a Christian is the best decision I’ve made in my life” as he gets baptized.

The bereaved 63-year-old who also spent two seasons with the Houston Gamblers of the United States Football League has taken to Instagram to share how God loved and changed his life following his recent public declaration of faith.

“I’m not a man of many words and I don’t speak ‘Christianese’. All I know is that God changed my life,” Kelly wrote in the caption of his baptism video. “After Hunter went to heaven I was so lost and angry at God. But God loved me anyway and he never gave up on me.

Kelly’s son Hunter passed away in 2005 at the age of 8 after a long battle with Krabbe disease – a rare genetic disorder. Kelly himself has also battled a recurring squamous cell carcinoma in his upper jaw- a type of cancer that required him to undergo surgery multiple times.

“I’m far from perfect but God helped me humble myself and seek him for help,” Kelly stressed in the post. “Becoming a Christian is the best decision I’ve made in my life. I wish I would’ve come to him sooner. But his timing is perfect.”

“Finally, I was baptized,” Kelly said, further expressing gratitude to those who have been praying for him. He  thanked his friends and men’s fellowship group for helping him “be a better man.” He also thanked his wife wife Jill who “never left my side,” he acknowledged. “The one that brought me closer and helped me understand God’s purpose for my life, he added.

Kelly also expressed gratitude to his daughters for helping him” be a better dad.” Thank you, Hunter. It’s because of you that I know Jesus and I will see you again,” he concluded.
