Pope Francis Appeals for Black Sea Grain Deal Restoration

 Pope Francis appeals for the restoration of the Russian-Ukraine Black Sea grain deal which facilitates the distribution of grains.

After Sunday Angelus, Pope Francis urged the Russian authorities to reverse its decision to abandon the Black Sea grain agreement, which allows Ukraine to export grain from its seaport amid the ongoing war.

“I appeal to my brothers, the authorities of the Russian Federation so that the Black Sea initiative may be resumed and grain may be transported safely,” Pope appealed.

Expressing his concern, he warned about the consequence of such a decision on humanity. “The cry of millions of brothers and sisters who suffer hunger rises to heaven,” he said.

Francis also appealed to the faithful to continue praying for the “beleaguered Ukraine, where war is destroying everything, even grain,”

Russia Withdrew from the Black Sea green deal after claims that its demands to ease sanctions on its own grain and fertilizer exports had not been met. Russia Capital also lamented about the less food grain supply to the undeveloped nations.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, has expressed concern over the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war and its global consequences. He also condemned Russia’s decision to suspend the Black Sea Initiative on grain shipment. He further expressed the UN’s eagerness to assist in the restoration of the initiative

“We are very concerned that a prolonged conflict will have even more dramatic impacts globally and particularly in relation to the developing countries,” he said. ” We need to do things that are possible. And we are doing every effort we can to guarantee the success of both Ukraine and Russian foods and fertilizers to the global market.”
