Sarah Jakes Roberts: Unshakeable Hope

Today we bring you a fresh message from Sarah Jakes Roberts, which is titled “Unshakeable Hope.” The text for this message is from the book of Hebrews 11 and Colossians 1:27.

Pastor Sarah discusses the difference between wishful thinking and having a hope that is so strong that it inspires confidence and even expectation. She tells us that our inability to have hope has a lot to do with our protection against disappointment. When we are not hoping for things, people may think that we are unfocused, unanchored, and merely floating through life without any direction.

In objection to the above, Sarah says that the truth is that many of us feel that hope is expensive. It feels like it cost more than we could possibly pay for. Therefore, it becomes much easier to not have any hopes at all. There is also a situation where we can have hope but still be dead on the inside.

We are going through life, navigating people, and expecting trauma to come. We are also expecting some disappointment, and that is a kind of hope. In other words, we do have some hope, but we are focusing on the wrong and negative things.

Taking us through the text in Hebrew, Chapter 11 versus 1, we learn yet again what faith (hope) is all about. “Faith is the substance of things hoped for.”

The scriptures tell us that faith (hope) without work is dead. In the same way, when we go through life (work) without faith, we are also dead. The bible says in Cols 1:27, “God wanted them to know that the riches and glory of Christ are also for you Gentiles.”And this is the secret: Christ lives in you. This gives you assurance of sharing his glory.

There are people who, at this time in their lives, need to transition from wishing to really having hope.

This is a message that you will love.
