You need to position yourself for that encounter.
How do you know that you are on the precipice of an encounter with God is when you encounter a contradiction. Just like Moses encountered the burning bush ad that was where God called him. Do not miss an encounter with God because of a contradiction that does not make sense.
If You are seeking a word from God in your wilderness, then you must be in his presence, respond to the contradictions that do not make sense, and hear him call your name. You also need to respond to your name being called.
However, at the top of this, is that you must be willing to be separated from your sin so that you can have that encounter with God.
