Ministry and Success

After completing his education, Pearson became an associate evangelist with the Oral Roberts Evangelistic Association. In 1977, he founded Higher Dimensions Evangelistic Center, a church that would later become one of the largest in Tulsa. Pearson gained prominence within the Pentecostal and Charismatic Christian communities for his dynamic preaching style and charismatic leadership.

Doctrinal Shift and Controversy

In the late 1990s, Carlton Pearson underwent a significant doctrinal shift that would alter the course of his life and ministry. Challenged by questions about the traditional Christian concept of hell and eternal damnation, Pearson embraced a controversial belief known as “inclusion theology” or “universal reconciliation.” He began preaching that a loving God would not condemn people to hell, and that ultimately, everyone would be reconciled with God.

Excommunication and Personal Struggles

As a result of his theological shift, Pearson faced excommunication from various Pentecostal organizations. Despite the challenges, Pearson remained steadfast in his convictions, even as he faced the loss of friendships, influence, and support.

In the face of adversity, Carlton Pearson embarked on a journey of personal and spiritual rebuilding. He founded the New Dimensions Worship Center in Tulsa, where he continued to preach his message of inclusion and unconditional love. Pearson’s story gained wider attention through the 2018 Netflix film “Come Sunday,” which portrayed his theological evolution and the subsequent challenges he faced.
