Christian Leaders Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Many Christian leaders across the globe have taken to social media today, to celebrate the legacy of the influential Baptist minister and civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.

Every year on the third Monday in January, The United States celebrates the life of the influential king who emerged as the most visible spokesperson and leader in the American civil rights movement from 1955 until his assassination in Memphis, Tennessee, on April 4, 1968.

Despite his life being cut short, his legacy continues to inspire people around the world to fight for equality and justice.

Today, on his Day and 95th birthday, Prominent Christian leaders raised their voices online to remember and celebrate his legacy.

Harvest Church founder Greg Laurie shared a quote from the King acknowledging his impact on the development of America.

“Today, on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we remember this great civil rights leader who stood up against injustice and for the God-given rights of African-American people. He once said, “I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.” America is a better place because of Dr. King’s stand,” he wrote.

Joseph Walker III, the  International Presiding Bishop of the Full Gospel Baptist Church shared a video message on Instagram, reminding viewers of King’s unwavering fight for justice, equality, and peace. He also urges everyone to continue the King’s work.

“Because of his commitment to justice and the bold work of other impactful civil rights leaders & activists, we are able to witness the fruits of their labor. But the work is far from over. They have simply passed the baton to us and it is now our turn to do our part in making this world a much better place for future generations to come.”

Hagee Ministries founded by John Charles Hagee remembered him for his love kindness and equality. “Today, we honor a man who stood for love, equality, and kindness for all. Let’s continue his legacy by spreading love and compassion,” an Instagram statement read.

Andy Stanley Son of influential Baptist Pastor Charles Stanley wrote: “Today we celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Tomorrow we continue the work inspired by his vision, his sacrifice, and his unrelenting determination.”

Other Christian leaders, churches, and organizations that commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day include  Woman Evolve, Joyce Meyer Ministries, and Gateway Church.

Born on January 15 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia, Martin Luther King Jr.’s life was deeply influenced by his Christian faith. He embraced nonviolent resistance as a powerful tool for change, leading boycotts, marches, and sit-ins to challenge racial segregation and discrimination.
